"Hon Go"
A Buddhist name given to me in 2013 by Shinge Roshi Roko Sherry Chayat, abbot of the Zen Center of Syracuse, Hoen-ji.
Its meaning: "Original Home", Home is within.
Artist Statement
My paintings are meditations.
The process of creating is key. The road traveled is as important as the destination. The painting process allows me to experience conception and completion. As progressive avant-garde artists, Jackson Pollock and Mark Rothko made painting accessible to me. More recently my inspiration comes from painters Ad Reinhardt, Mark Tobey, Pierre Soulage, Nicholas de Stael and Robert Ryman. Their use of the horizontal plane is very evident in my own work, my X/Y paintings. Texture and sometimes heavy texture is a major component of my paintings. I want to instill a calmness, a celebration of the moment, a celebration of life.
My hope is to create a place that causes you to pause, one that leaves you wanting to know more, and to ask questions.
Artist Bio: Hongo David Robertson lives and paints in Jamesville, NY. I custom make my own canvas, and frames using various woods such as oak and cedar. My paintings are primarily abstract landscapes, highly texturized, using thick media bases and acrylics. Typically, the finished work is protected with a polymer medium or oil-based polyethylene. Heavy texture is a major component of my paintings.
Hongo Pens, Mechanical Pencils and Bowls
All of my legacy pens, mechanical pencils and bowl’s are custom made from exotic hardwoods.
They are as unique as the individual acquiring them.
“Handcrafted: this piece is artistically created by hand where beauty and imperfections go together wonderfully. Please accept and appreciate minor imperfections and variations, which are true characteristics of this craft” - Buddha Groove
